HCUPnet
HCUPnet is an interactive tool for identifying, tracking, analyzing, and comparing statistics on hospital and emergency care. HCUPnet provides statistics from the HCUP nationwide databases -- the Nationwide Inpatient Sample and the Kid's Inpatient Database -- and from State Inpatient Databases and State Emergency Department Databases for those States that have agreed to participate. HCUPnet is available on the HCUP section of the AHRQ Web site. |

AHRQ Quality Indicators (QIs) use hospital administrative data to highlight potential quality concerns, identify areas that need further study and investigation, and track changes over time. Clinical Classifications Software (CCS) for ICD-9-CM
Clinical Classifications Software (CCS) provides a method for classifying ICD-9-CM diagnoses or procedures into clinically meaningful categories, which can be used for aggregate statistical reporting of a variety of types. Clinical Classifications Software (CCS) for ICD-10 Clinical Classifications Software (CCS) provides a method for classifying ICD-10 diagnoses into clinically meaningful categories, which can be used for aggregate statistical reporting of a variety of types. Mental Health and Substance Abuse Clinical Classification Software (CCS-MHSA) Mental Health and Substance Abuse Clinical Classifications Software (CCS-MHSA) defines variables that identify general categories for mental health and substance abuse-related ICD-9-CM diagnoses in hospital discharge records. Clinical Classifications Software for Services and Procedures CCS-Services and Procedures provides a method for classifying Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes and and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes into clinically meaningful procedure categories. The procedure categories are identical to the CCS, with the addition of specific categories unique to professional service codes in CPT/HCPCS. Users must agree to a license to use the CCS-Services and Procedures before accessing the software. Chronic Condition Indicator
The Chronic Condition Indicator provides users an easy way to categorize ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes into one of two categories: chronic or not chronic. The tool can also assign ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes into 1 of 18 body system categories. Select to access more information about the CCI and the CCI downloadable software. (Updated for codes valid through 2010.) Comorbidity Software Comorbidity Software assigns variables that identify coexisting conditions on hospital discharge records. Procedure Classes Procedure Classes facilitate research on hospital services using administrative data by identifying whether a procedure is (a) diagnostic or therapeutic, and (b) minor or major in terms of invasiveness and/or resource use. Utilization Flags Utilization Flags reveal additional information about use of health care services by combining information from UB-92 revenue codes and ICD-9-CM procedure codes to create flags, or indicators, of utilization. Cost-to-Charge Ratio (CCR) Files The HCUP Cost-to-Charge Ratio Files are hospital-level files designed to supplement the data elements in the NIS, KID, and SID databases. Hospital Market Structure (HMS) Files The HCUP Hospital Market Structure Files are hospital-level files designed to supplement the data elements in the NIS, KID, and SID databases. HCUP Supplemental Files for Revisit Analyses The HCUP Supplemental Files for Revisit Analyses are discharge-level files designed to facilitate analyses that need to track patients within a state and across time and hospital settings (inpatient, emergency department, and ambulatory surgery) while adhering to strict privacy guidelines. American Hospital Association (AHA) Linkage Files
The AHA Linkage Files are hospital-level files that contain a small number of data elements that allow researchers to link hospital identifiers on the HCUP state databases to the American Hospital Association Annual Survey Databases (Health Forum, LLC © 2007). Linkage is only possible in States that allow the release of hospital identities. Select to access more information on the AHA Linkage Files. Nationwide Inpatient Sample Trends (NIS-Trends) Files The NIS-Trends Files are discharge-level files that provide the NIS data user with both the trend weights and data elements that are consistently defined across data years. The purpose of the NIS-Trends Files is to ease the burden on researchers conducting longitudinal analyses. Select to access more information on the NIS-Trends Files. Kids’ Inpatient Database Trends (KID-Trends) File The KID-Trends File is a discharge-level file that provides KID data users with trend weights consistently defined between 1997 and later years. MONAHRQ is a software that allows host users with access to hospital administrative data to create hospital quality indicators and utilization rates for a variety of standard measures.
